The Bottom Line was a legendary music venue located in the heart of Greenwich Village, NYC. Owned by Allan Pepper and Stanley Snadowsky, the Bottom Line opened February 12, 1974 and enjoyed a 30-year run. Bruce Springsteen played showcase gigs at the club and Lou Reed recorded the album Live: Take No Prisoners there. Harry Chapin held his 2000th concert at the Bottom Line in 1981. The Bottom Line hosted an extremely wide variety of music. Among the thousands who performed on its stage were: Eric Clapton, Linda Ronstadt, The Police, Billy Joel, Patti Smith, Hall & Oates, Prince, Van Morrison, Emmylou Harris, Dolly Parton, Betty Carter, Ravi Shankar, Ramones, Miles Davis, Bill Evans, Charles Mingus, Neil Sedaka, Al Kooper, Tom Waits, Peter Gabriel, Cheech & Chong, Sam & Dave, John Cale, Laura Nyro, Ringo Starr, Chris Botti, Norah Jones, Alesha Keys, Keith Urban, Brad Paisley and many more.
Forty-one years after the legendary Bottom Line club opened its doors in Greenwich Village, The Bottom Line Archive decided to re-launch the historic Bottom Line Archive Series, which celebrated the release of three new titles in March 2015, each recorded live at the club: Kenny Rankin Plays The Beatles & More (1990); The Brecker Brothers (1976); and Willie Nile (1980 & 2000). These three releases signal the start of an extensive quarterly rollout of more than 24 new titles over the next two years, including classic live performances by John Hiatt, Harry Chapin, Emmylou Harris, Janis Ian, Savoy Brown, Ralph Stanley, Jorma Kaukonen and Rory Gallagher, among others. The next releases are scheduled for June 30th and include: Harry Chapin (1981), Janis Ian (1980), In Their Own Words Vol. 1 (1990 -1996) – with performances by Dion, Barrett Strong, Joey Ramone, Richard Thompson, Ric Ocasek, Lucinda Williams, and more and In Their Own Words Vol. 2 (1990 – 1996)with performances by Pete Seeger, Billy Bragg, John Cale, David Johansen, Suzanne Vega, Chris Difford and Glenn Tilbrook and many more.
