From Steve Hutchinson
Life, they say, begins at forty – well, in his case, life began at fifty for Steve when he decided to showcase his singing and songs to family, friends and work colleagues.
The reaction was immediate and very positive! Within months, he had started Blue Onyx, the UK’s premier Moody Blues tribute band (www.blueonyx.co.uk) and also POLAR4, a band playing mainly original songs co-written by Steve (www.polar4.com). With Blue Onyx, Steve enjoyed some notable successes, playing to enthusiastic audiences across southern England and including playing at the birthday party for 2 of the Moody Blues founder members’ Ray Thomas and Mike Pinder! Since completing 7 years as lead singer of Blue Onyx, Steve has been busy writing and recording many of his own songs, self-releasing 2 albums ‘Seven Steps Back’ and ‘This August Night’. The latter included ‘Timeless Wonder’, a track which reached the semi-finals of the US Song of the Year in 2016. In 2018, Steve and his songwriting partner were runners up in the same contest with their POLAR4 single ‘On A Winter’s Day’! Twice a semi-finalist in the prestigious UK Songwriting Contest as a solo artist, Steve is gaining a reputation amongst the West London music scene as a singer/songwriter worth listening to! Steve was raised with the sounds of the 60s in his ears and, as a sweet young treble, sang solos with his school choir at both the Royal Albert and Festival halls! His musical style? Melodic Pop /Rock / Country - it’s not easy to define! He is influenced by all the great songsmiths of the 60s and 70s, writing strong melodies and harmonies, whilst conveying a range of emotions on subjects as wide–ranging as love, life and board games – and the perils of travelling in West London!! You can hear these in his latest single, the country-influenced ‘The One We Couldn’t Lose’.
