Nirmal Chandraratna is a New York City-based Kirtan artist and composer with a passion for nurturing connection— to spirit, to community, and to one's deeper self— through music. Using the voice, the harmonium and the cello, he creates music for Kirtan and meditation, and works for communal performance.
Nirmal studied the cello for 12 years and earned degrees in Music Composition from Brown University and San Francisco Conservatory. He also studied musical theater at BMI and created a full-length chamber opera and a musical. In 2010, Nirmal discovered Kirtan and has since devoted his time studying mantra, Kirtan and other intentional musical practices.
