As we have written, performed, and toured over the last several years, the concepts of Love and Equality have become increasingly prevalent in our songs and conversations. We have always strongly believed that every person on the planet is worthy and deserving of love and equal treatment, but we find it increasingly important to be champions of this message. In today’s sociopolitical climate, this is unquestionably the case. We strive to encourage our listeners to look inside themselves and learn to love what they see. We believe that when people remove the mask of expectation and simply choose to acknowledge who they truly are, they can be free of the negativity that plagues our society. We also believe that Love and Equality thrive when women, minorities, and other marginalized groups are empowered to be leaders and agents of change.
That’s where we found the inspiration for Wake the Queens. This record is about empowerment; specifically, the empowerment of women and girls in our modern world. Each of these songs is an encouragement for listeners to acknowledge their true selves, find their voices, and step into their power. Wake the Queens embodies a sound and an attitude that is unapologetic in its boldness and uniqueness. The entire album is an invitation to shed convention and become a powerful force for good, while celebrating the beauty of individuality.
Wake the Queens is intended to do exactly what it says: awaken and acknowledge the powerful being within every woman and girl in the world. It is our sincere hope that this record breaks down internal and external barriers, and creates real conversations about the positive impact of female empowerment in society.
