goodbyemotel have just released their new single "Set it off" taken from their latest EP "People”. Recorded by the band in a beach house on the Australian coast.
“Set it off” received major Australian radio play and is now causing a stir on US radio. They have just completed a string of live media performances including major US political website/blog Huffington Post and performing at New York’s CMJ festival 3 years running. The “Set it off “ music video just won the MTVu freshmen spot, was added to Music Choice and the glowing reviews keep pouring in.
goodbyemotel are now based in New York and touring North American for Set it off. They also just returned from a very successful first tour of Japan.
Innovation is at the very heart of goodbyemotel so it is no surprise that their live show should follow in this mindset. The band has created a unique 4D live music experience that infuses several artistic elements including film, 3D and live music all into one sublime live experience. They debuted their 4D live video concept show in New York. The 4D show has graced stages in the US, UK, Australia and Japan
Fronted by 21 year old Swedish/Australian singer/guitarist Gustaf Sjodin Enstrom along with Aussies Tom Marks, Scott Pioro, David Schmidt and New Yorker Paul Amorese. They spent 6 months living together 2012 based in New York writing and recording their new album “IF” with producer Kevin Killen (U2, Peter Gabriel, Kate Bush). They took advantage of NYC’s generous musical melting pot calling in Gerry Leonard (David Bowie) and Tony Levin (John Lennon, Lou Reed) for some contributions to the album too. The new album titled “IF” is due out in 2014.
goodbyemotel started to take shape after members kept crossing paths in the local Melbourne music scene. They soon realized they all shared the same musical concepts and ideas. Not long after goodbyemotel released their debut EP “Information” which started the ball rolling for the band.
Their second EP “end/play” was recorded in an old church converted into a studio in Melbourne with producer Kalju Tonuma (Crowded House, Evermore) The EP received some amazing reviews such as “If this EP doesn’t conquer the world then there is seriously something wrong” Jeff Jenkins Howzat
Their debut album the self titled goodbyemotel, which was three years in the making, also started out in a beach house on the Victorian great ocean road. Following the albums release the song “Watching you” won a song competition in the US and featured in the “End child slavery” national TV and MTV campaigns.
The IF cover art was done by Storm Thorgerson, the album designer who created album sleeves for most of Pink Floyd’s catalogue including the iconic “Dark side of the moon”. After listening to their music and meeting the band, he felt compelled to do goodbyemotel’s artwork for “IF”. Being huge Pink Floyd fans, this was a major coup for the guys.
