They spent 6 months living together 2012 based in New York writing and recording their new album “IF” with producer Kevin Killen (U2, Peter Gabriel, Kate Bush). They took advantage of NYC’s generous musical melting pot calling in Gerry Leonard (David Bowie) and Tony Levin (John Lennon, Lou Reed) for some contributions to the album too. The new album titled “IF” is due out in 2014.

goodbyemotel started to take shape after members kept crossing paths in the local Melbourne music scene. They soon realized they all shared the same musical concepts and ideas. Not long after goodbyemotel released their debut EP “Information” which started the ball rolling for the band.

Their second EP “end/play” was recorded in an old church converted into a studio in Melbourne with producer Kalju Tonuma (Crowded House, Evermore) The EP received some amazing reviews such as “If this EP doesn’t conquer the world then there is seriously something wrong” Jeff Jenkins Howzat

Their debut album the self titled goodbyemotel, which was three years in the making, also started out in a beach house on the Victorian great ocean road. Following the albums release the song “Watching you” won a song competition in the US and featured in the “End child slavery” national TV and MTV campaigns.

The IF cover art was done by Storm Thorgerson, the album designer who created album sleeves for most of Pink Floyd’s catalogue including the iconic “Dark side of the moon”. After listening to their music and meeting the band, he felt compelled to do goodbyemotel’s artwork for “IF”. Being huge Pink Floyd fans, this was a major coup for the guys.
