Born in 1953, Sandra Boynton grew up in Philadelphia, and the Catskill Mountains  She went to Germantown Friends School, then Yale She dramatically dropped out of two drama schools Since 1974, more than 300 million of her greeting cards have been sold She has written and illustrated more than 50 bestselling books for children She has also written seven bestselling humor books for alleged grown-ups Over 60 million of her books have been sold—“Mostly to friends and family,” she says Three of her books are among Publisher’s Weekly’s Bestselling Children’s Books of All Time She has had four New York Times Bestsellers, and she is one of the Amazon Top 100 authors She likes hiking, hardly ever answers the phone, and is pretty bad at keeping track of her belongings She has written and produced five renegade record albums for children Three of her albums have been certified Gold by the RIAA Philadelphia Chickens, nominated for a Grammy, was a #1 New York Times Bestseller She wrote and produced an album of plainchant in Pig Latin, titled GRUNT She produced, and was the principal kazoo soloist, on a 300-kazoo attempt of Ravel’s “Boléro” She was awarded (in 2008) a Lifetime Achievement Award by the National Cartoonists Society She has directed four music videos of her songs, including “One Shoe Blues” starring B.B.
