From COREY QUANTEZ
It’s been said that “an artist sees the common forms of our
reality and then makes them something irresistible.”
From early on, Corey Bostic saw the “irresistible” all around him. Growing up in the diverse St Louis neighborhood of the Central West End, Corey saw the common and made it something interesting and beautiful. As early as grade school, Corey recognized that through his eyes, his world was full of colors, shapes and sights that were different from his peers. He was an artist.
Later in high school, Corey discovered he had another voice…music. Gifted with a natural ability to sing, he joined the school choir where he honed his skills, eventually becoming a soloist in the choir. He also found that he could write lyrics and with a young group of hip-hop musicians and rappers called “Streets Rose,” Corey became a lead singer and writer. The group performed at local venues and also had the privilege of opening for Grammy Award winning artist, Trey Songz.
After high school graduation, Corey was faced with a decision. Should he continue making music or follow his early passion of “making art?” He chose to attend a local community college majoring in graphic design and received his associates degree. He also took classes at the University of Missouri-St Louis.
Working as a graphic designer, Corey learned to work in a structured environment, meeting deadlines, working with clients and being part of a team. He took up photography and clothing design which allowed him to use his truly creative side and earn extra income.
But he couldn’t get the music out of his head. He found the lyrics coming from every direction, the songs writing themselves. His voice was stronger and more emotive. He had to get back to the music.
Today, with the collaboration of a local guitarist, Corey has found the sound he has been looking for, a sound that showcases his vocal ability. He credits his family, friends and local musicians and singers for getting him to this point.
Corey Bostic is an artist who writes and sings and makes our world “irresistible.”
