From DJ Wade-O
I was born and raised in Columbus, OH and developed a love for music at a very young age. My father loved music and helped shape the way I approach it. By the time I was in middle school, I had acquired a deep affection for the art of hip hop and was often seen debating and discussing the latest and greatest hip hop trends while in the lunch room and barbershop.
Once I left Columbus for college in Washington, DC, I began to DJ professionally.
During my time in college, and under the moniker DJ Oddysey, I dedicated myself to becoming a skilled DJ and businessman. By day I was a student in Howard University’s School of Business Honors Program and at night I DJ’d parties, concerts and events alongside Eminem, Alicia Keys, Busta Rhymes, DJ Clue, Fabolous, DMX, Mos Def, Foxy Brown, Mobb Deep, Ashanti and various other mainstream heavy hitters. I was even offered the opportunity to become a resident DJ for the largest night club in the country upon gradutation.
Thankfully, God had other plans for me. A good friend of mine, gave me multi-platinum rapper-turned Pastor Mason “Ma$e Betha’s testimonial biography Revelations as a gradution gift. It was through this book, that I began to see the emptiness of my own life. I realized that what I was seeking: Money, Power and Fame, would never satisfy my soul. It was at that point that I dedicated my life and gifts to Jesus Christ.
Now residing in Newark, NJ, I am a committed husband, father, DJ, radio personality, producer, business owner, and ministry leader. Upon graduating Cum Laude from Howard University, I, worked for Alcatel-Lucent for 5 years and earned a master’s degree in finance from Babson College. In 2006, I began the Wade-O Radio Show Podcast and left Alcatel-Lucent during the summer of 2007 to focus on it full-time. The Wade-O Radio Show has since been downloaded over 2 Million times and is currently syndicated on 23 radio stations world-wide. Through this platform, I have had the opportunity to interview people such as Al Sharpton, Kirk Franklin, Lecrae, Dorinda Clark-Cole, Da’ T.R.U.T.H., Allan Houston and ESPN’s Chris Broussard.
I’ve also been fortunate enough to DJ, Host or speak at over 200 events in 20 different states, including major festivals and conferences like SXSW, Revelation Generation, Flavor Fest, Rap Fest, Legacy Conference and Positive Direction for Youth. In 2012, I was presented with the Kingdom Excellence Award as well as DJ of the Year at the 5th Annual Kingdom Choice Awards. The Wade-O Radio Show was also nominated for a Stellar Award at the 2013 Stellar Awards.
I have been married to my wife, Belinda, since 2008. Together, we have two sons, Nathan and Noah and one daughter, Naomi.
In my free time, I enjoy reading, running, and basketball. I have been a member of Metropolitan Baptist Church in Newark, NJ, since 2003, where I have served as Choir Member, Radio Show Producer, ministry leader and currently teach Sunday School.
