From Garrett Viggers and a Thin Places Band
Garrett Viggers stumbled upon Thin Places Band in 2010 when he and Seth Carlson recorded an instrumental album featuring modern hammer dulcimer, titled "Thin Places." The band is a unique and creative blend of folk + modern + euro celtic + everything else. The term "thin places" is an ancient Celtic term that was later used by Celtic Christians to describe the veil between this world and the eternal world as being "tissue thin." If one felt the presence of God, they would say "this is a thin place." Thin Places Band writes a mix of vocal and instrumental songs that tell stories. In 2011, "Brendan" was released as a single with a signature sound. It tells a story of a Celtic monk getting out in a leather boat with some monk friends and leaving all that he knew to follow the voice of God in to the unknown. History says they traveled across the Atlantic Ocean to New Foundland. An old Celtic fisherman prayer resonates in the song, "The sea is so wide, and my boat is so small."
