About

Father-and-sons trio, The Janzen Boys, got their start busking as a rootsy, harmony-singing family playing in various places around Winnipeg, Manitoba. It wasn't long, however, before there was a demand for more. After racking up almost 4000 views on YouTube in the University of Winnipeg's Uniter Fiver contest for new bands, they were chosen for a showcase at Winnipeg's iconic West End Cultural Centre.

The bands schedule was soon filled with house concerts and festival gigs all over the province. The highlight of the summer was their Western Canada Busking Roadie which took them all the way to B.C. and back, playing in music venues, farmer’s markets, and public spaces from here to Kelowna.

The following summer, the Boys wrote the story and music for a play that they performed, with the help of Siloam Mission, Aboriginal Youth Opportunities and the Louis Riel School Division, for the 2015 Winnipeg Fringe Festival. This resulted in multiple sellouts and a 4-star review from the CBC. The band took the play on the road in August 2016 to the Edmonton Fringe Festival. In addition to the Fringe Festival the band kept busy on the summer festival circuit, performing at The Teddy Bear Picnic, Dauphin CountryFest, The Fire and Water Festival in Lac du Bonnet, and Pioneer Days in Steinbach.

Summer 2016 found The Janzen Boys partnering with Juno-award winning producer Murray Pulver to develop the music portion of their Fringe festival play. With Murray’s wealth of experience in production, as well as the voice talents of local singers Erin Propp, Alexa Dirks, and William Prince, Blink's Garden was released by Siloam Mission as a CD book on November 1.
