Sample Before You Download
Hi friends! As promised here is the link for the FOURTH free download from my album "Live as Free"! If you'd like, check out a little part of the story of this song below:
There is a quote by a very esteemed apologist named Ravi Zacharias that I have always found inspiration from: “Time is the brush of God, painting on the heart of humanity.” The idea glorifies God as the original artist, the One from whom all creativity flows. It is from this quote that I wrote this song. That idea forces us to reconcile who we are by what we create. There is no way for us to create something that does not express who we are in some way. Anything otherwise would be the definition of forgery. In the same way, those who give themselves (their lives, thoughts, hearts, soul) to God are an expression of who He is as His creation.
The style of this song takes a few hairpin turns in it s dynamics. For the first verses and chorus, an almost painfully slow shuffle accompanies the lyrics. My first initial thought was to incorporate some really soulful, bluesy, grunge electric guitar; something that would normally fit this rhythmic style. Then the idea hit me, why not try something new? So I had my friend Everett Hardin, who is the masterful cellist in this project, try his hand at mimicking blues guitar licks with his cello. The result is what you hear in this song. One of my favorite parts of this album is when the bridge switches to a driving, quarter note kick, orchestral, layered, Irish jig meltdown at the end. The culmination in the phrase “You are the beauty we praise” lifts us up beyond the beauty of art itself, and points back to the original master craftsman, the Lord Jesus. Awesome.
