Les Mosquitos was founded in 2008 by singer-songwriter Mason Bell (guitar, main vocals). A great
personality who simply wants to write songs to express himself. He was joined from the start by musicians Guillaume Taillefer (bass) and Orlando Alvarez (saxophone, guitar). They were later joined by Mathieu Péloquin (drums) and Marianne Dumas (keyboards).
In 2011, they participated in LiVE 88.5’s Big Money Shot, a music contest based in Ottawa. There winnings allowed them to record their first EP, Chasing the Dragon, which they released in summer 2012. The album has sold nearly1,000 copies to date.
In 2012, they released our first music video for our song “Number One”, which has over 13,000 YouTube views to date. That year, we participated a second time in the Big Money Shot, making it to the finals and finishing in second place among 70 bands. In 2012, we were voted “Best Local Band’’ in a reader’s poll held by our local newspaper, the Aylmer Bulletin. In 2013, we received that honour for a second year in a row.
In 2013, they performed at various venues and in different cities, but the most significant events were the ones they organized them-self’s , among others, a music event at Cabaret la Basoche in Aylmer on February 20, a concert at the Rainbow in Ottawa on April 20, and a show at Le Petit Chicago in Hull on May 18. All three were sold out.
During the summer of 2013, they performed at Ottawa’s Bluesfest. The reception from the audience and the media was very positive. A large audience attended the show and Les Mosquitos were pleased to see that a good part of it came especially for them. They also performed at Ottawa’s Festival franco-ontarien, which was a success as well. In 2013, they produced four other music videos and performed live on TV (Rogers TV, CTV Morning News and Musique Plus).
To date, they have been working together for almost five years. They have great YouTube content and over 1,200 likes on our Facebook page.
