Grant-Lee Phillips
About
Since first emerging in the early ‘90s as the front-man and songwriter of the internationally acclaimed trio Grant Lee Buffalo, founder Grant-Lee Phillips has been drawn to the conflicts at the heart of the American experience. The resulting body of work, consisting of four GLB albums and six divergent solo albums, has placed Phillips among the most admired songwriters of his generation. Walking in the Green Corn, the newest album by Phillips, has ten songs drawn from Phillips’ intensive investigations into his native lineage. Phillips, who is Muskogee (Creek), elliptically explores the intersection of past and present, personal and political. Green Corn Songs Live From McCabes captures Phillips, with bassist Kimon Kirk and pianist Jebin Bruni performing his latest works months in advance of the studio album release. Raw and unfettered, this EP was recorded live by Robin Danar at McCabes in Santa Monica. The studio track, Thunderbird from Walking in the Green Corn is also included.
